Putting You First
With some ideas on styling white for summer on the side :)
Back in January I wrote a post titled Is There Too Much Sameness? And the theme has been nagging at me ever since. After (too much time) mulling it over and trying to figure out what exactly is bugging me, reading Caroline’s substack “I Don’t Care What the Cool Girls Are Wearing” helped me to put words to it: it feels like there’s a constant push for self improvement right now, but rather than being individually based on how we feel or what we’d like for ourselves, it’s as if there’s some common, collective goal that we all should be chasing. Better skin, better hair, better bodies, better wardrobes, to name a few.
When it comes to fashion, the tricky thing is this manifests in consumption and the need to have a specific look - same jeans, same sweaters, same styling - which easily clouds our own judgment and style preferences. Rather than appreciating the pieces we own and trusting our taste, doubt creeps in, and we feel anxiously drawn towards needing new - the problem here is that this is an endless chase that’s not only confusing and costly, but prevents you from ever developing your own personal style. This isn’t to say we shouldn’t be buying clothes or want new things (that would also be boring :)), but we don’t need to throw the champagne out with the cork.
The goal with this newsletter is in part to help you find fun and functional pieces for your wardrobe, but first and foremost to give you ideas and styling inspiration for how you might think about pulling together your own closet - often a fresh perspective is exactly what we need to make some old faithfuls feel new again. So with that in mind, as it finally looks like we have some warmer weather, here are some ideas for how you may want to style your whites this season, and in your own way.
Black Accents
White dresses are often what I want to reach for on a hot day - for work, play, and everything in between, they just really signal a seasonal change. To make them feel more city, less vacation, pairing them with black accessories can counter them with the right amount of edge…
